X User Pisses Off Porsche Racer

NotFifthGear, a user on X that has 19.2k followers and received engagement when he covered the 2025 Le Mans 24 Hour Rabbit incident has started and squashed a beef with a Professional Race Car Driver in a little under 4 hours.
NotFifthGear posted the following on X:
Sleeping is important kids! https://t.co/YO5TaMFKN5 pic.twitter.com/BNt2zvxmBe

This was in reaction to Porsche Factory Driver Laurens Vanthoor’s huge crash at starting at Schwedenkreuz and ending up in the wall at Aremberg during Top Qualifying during the Nurburgring 24h.
“Sleeping is important kids!” he gleefully proclaims in his post trying to link the crash with Vanthoor’s lack of sleep. Presumably this was because Vanthoor had liked a post of another X user late at night.
NotFifthGear then follows up some 2 hours later with a screenshot of a DM Vanthoor had sent claiming his post was “Not funny this time bud”. X being X, there were a flurry of replies and one specific one seemed to stand out to our race reporter NotFifthGear.
You probably thought it was funny. Making a joke about such a massive shunt shortly after it happened is as foolish as anything.

Uncertain and with an air of backpedalling, NotFifthGear then clarifies the situation for us:
I do feel the need to clarify if Laurens genuinely feels uncomfortable:https://t.co/ZaPj1NW89d

We don’t get to see behind the scenes on the resolution of this saga, but we do see the end result of Laurens telling us that it was all good.
He's cool, we're cool, and Porsche is winning this weekend 😁 pic.twitter.com/mhNVNcpmsJ

And the moral of the story? There isn’t one. We’re all looking for engagement. It doesn’t matter how we get it but it is kinda fun when the famous people we poke fun at engage back with us. Laurens has been very kind to his fans and has a great podcast where he and his brother Dries talk to many other racing drivers. Definitely worth checking out.
